Critical Thinking: why human judgement matters more than ever in the age of AI
Having an answer and making a good decision aren't necessarily the same thing.
I've been looking forward to sharing this one. Insights has just launched something new for Insights Discovery – Critical Thinking. And I think the timing couldn't be better.
With AI becoming part of how so many of us work, we can get information, ideas and answers almost instantly.
But having an answer and making a good decision aren't necessarily the same thing.
We still need to:
- Question
- Challenge assumptions
- Look at the evidence
- Recognise our own biases and blind spots
- And ultimately, apply human judgement
Self-awareness, applied to how we decide
That's what I really like about the new Insights Discovery Critical Thinking experience.
It takes something we already know from Insights Discovery – that self-awareness helps us understand how we naturally behave – and applies that thinking to how we make decisions.
It uses the familiar colour energies to help us recognise our thinking strengths, where our blind spots might be, and what we can do differently when we're faced with a complex decision.
The CLEAR framework
There's also a really practical framework at the heart of the experience, designed to guide you through any complex decision.
-
Clarifythe real problem
-
Locatethe evidence, assumptions and gaps
-
Exploredifferent options and perspectives
-
Assessthe risks, trade-offs and impact
-
Responddecide and act
Simple, practical and something you can actually take back into the workplace.
What's next
I'm really looking forward to bringing this into the conversations and workshops we have with our clients.
And over the next few weeks, I'll share a bit more about it – particularly how our different colour energy preferences can influence the way we think and make decisions.
Over to you
Has AI made you more conscious of the need to think critically – or do you find yourself trusting the answer it gives you?
I'd love to hear your thoughts. And if you'd like to explore how Insights Discovery Critical Thinking could support your teams, let's talk.
